Scheduled Auto

A specific vehicle individually listed on a commercial auto policy by its vehicle identification number, with coverage applying only to those enumerated vehicles.

Scheduled auto coverage, designated by Symbol 7 on commercial auto policies, provides protection only for vehicles specifically listed in the policy declarations or attached schedules. Each vehicle is identified by its VIN, year, make, and model. New vehicles acquired during the policy period must be reported and added to the schedule to receive coverage.

In COI compliance, scheduled auto coverage is more restrictive than "any auto" and can create compliance gaps if vehicles used on-site are not included in the schedule. Compliance teams should be cautious when certificates show only scheduled auto coverage, as unlisted vehicles used for contracted work would not be covered.

When contracts require commercial auto coverage, specifying "any auto" rather than "scheduled auto" provides broader protection. If a vendor's certificate shows only scheduled auto coverage, compliance teams may request confirmation that all vehicles used for the contracted scope are included in the schedule.
