Any Auto

The broadest commercial auto coverage designation (Symbol 1) that provides liability protection for all vehicles, whether owned, hired, borrowed, or non-owned, used in connection with the insured's business.

Any auto coverage, represented by Symbol 1 on commercial auto policies, is the most comprehensive vehicle coverage designation available. It encompasses all other auto symbols—owned, hired, non-owned, and scheduled vehicles—under a single designation. This eliminates gaps that can occur when only specific symbols are selected.

In COI compliance, "any auto" is the preferred coverage designation for contractual requirements because it provides the broadest possible protection. When a certificate shows Symbol 1 or states "any auto," compliance teams can be confident that all vehicle types used in the vendor's operations are covered.

Compliance platforms should recognize that any auto coverage satisfies all other auto symbol requirements. A certificate showing "any auto" automatically meets requirements for hired auto, non-owned auto, scheduled auto, and owned auto coverage. This simplifies automated compliance verification by allowing a single symbol check to satisfy multiple contractual auto coverage requirements simultaneously.
