ACORD 131

A standardized ACORD form used as a commercial automobile application that captures vehicle schedules, driver information, and coverage details for underwriting auto liability and physical damage insurance.

The ACORD 131 commercial automobile application form documents the detailed information insurers require to underwrite commercial auto coverage. This includes vehicle schedules with VINs, driver lists with license information, radius of operations, cargo descriptions, and requested coverage symbols.

In COI compliance, understanding the ACORD 131 helps explain the auto coverage details shown on ACORD 25 certificates. The vehicle symbols, scheduled autos, and coverage selections originate from this application form. When a certificate shows specific auto coverage symbols rather than "any auto" coverage, the ACORD 131 application defines which vehicles are included.

Compliance teams reviewing auto liability certificates benefit from understanding that the underlying ACORD 131 determines coverage scope. If a vendor's certificate shows inadequate auto coverage symbols for their contractual obligations, referencing the application process helps guide conversations about obtaining appropriate coverage amendments.
