Garage Liability Insurance

A specialized liability policy designed for businesses in the automotive industry that covers bodily injury and property damage arising from garage operations and the use of customer vehicles.

Garage liability insurance is a hybrid policy that combines elements of general liability and commercial auto coverage into a single form tailored for automotive businesses. It covers auto dealerships, repair shops, service stations, parking garages, and towing companies. The policy addresses two main exposures: general liability arising from premises operations and auto liability arising from the use of customers' vehicles. This is distinct from garagekeepers coverage, which protects customers' vehicles while in the insured's care. In COI compliance for commercial real estate, garage liability is required from tenants operating automotive businesses on the property. Certificate holders verify that the policy covers both premises and auto exposures, with limits that meet lease or contract requirements. Compliance platforms should recognize garage liability as a specialized coverage line separate from standard CGL and auto policies.
